Village Halls are meeting places at the heart of rural communities and exist to serve the whole community as a focus for activities for all the Blackheath Residents and local community. Blackheath Village owns the Village Hall, and the Village Hall Committee ensures that the building is maintained to the highest possible standards.

Much of the day to day upkeep of the property is administered and carried out by members of the community dedicating their own time and effort to maintaining the building. This is becoming too much of a burden to a diminishing number of people and meeting the costs of new public building legislation standards is becoming prohibitive. Recent large expenditures for the roof and windows have been paid for by grants and donations from the Blackheath Village Society with The May Day Fair which has been the main source of funding for any costs & expenditure to the Village Hall. There are many demands on the BVS to help other worthwhile charitable causes and Village organisations. At the moment it is impossible to give the help to everyone. We need to find another way to help the upkeep of the Village Hall, as we cannot keep up with the financial demands the building requires. It would be a disaster if the property fell into a state of disrepair and we were not even able to use grants which we are entitled to receive from the local Council.

We all care about our local community and the Village Hall is an integral part of village life. We must ensure that the building is properly maintained and accessible for our own requirements and other activities that regularly take place.

Our proposal therefore is to set up a Special Fund and receive Gift Aid donations from every household on a regular basis which will be used only for the benefit of our Village Hall. This amount will be small and donated on whatever basis you prefer. We are proposing the following contributions, which start at only 10p per day!

Cottages (1-2 bedrooms): 3 per month

Houses (3-4 bedrooms): 5 per month

Houses (5-7 bedrooms): 7 per month

Of course, one off or annual contributions would be very welcome if you feel that the above is not appropriate for you. This is a voluntary initiative which we hope you will support.

All contributors to the scheme will be recognised with your family name etched in one of the panes of glass in the Hall as recognition of your contribution in helping to save the Blackheath Village Hall.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
